Performance with CONCORA
MEMBRA JESU NOSTRI BuxWV75 • Dieterich Buxtehude
(Snow Date—Monday, February 11, 7:30 p.m.)
To lovers of the music of J.S. Bach, the northern German city of Lübeck holds particular importance. It is here that Dietrich Buxtehude, the most significant composer of Baroque organ music prior to Bach, led the music program at St. Mary's Church for four decades. He was so famous for his organ and choral music that Bach traveled on foot to Lübeck to hear a series of concerts. Membra Jesu Nostri, an otherwordly reflection on Christ's crucifixion, is the kind of work Bach might have heard on his trip. CONCORA is joined by Trinity Chapel organist Christopher Houlihan, who intersperses with organ music that so influenced Bach's own compositions.
